![]() If the epithet "AV" is inaccurate for HMP, then it is equally inaccurate for Kaspersky, Avast, Avira, et alia. ![]() ![]() Each AV has its own selected set of methods. Of course, any given AV does not necessarily employ all these methods. However, the misnomer "AV" has become the generally accepted epithet for the genre of software that defends against malware through a combination of signatures, sandboxes, behavior blockers, HIPS, white-listing, etc. However, nowadays the so-called AVs are NOT merely doing Anti-Virus work but are perhaps more properly referred to as doing Anti-Malware work. The "A" in "AV" stands for "Anti" & the "V" stands for "Virus". Olympus must be splendid this time of year.
